Personality:
Chihiro Fujisaki is, by all accounts, not all that he appears to be. On the surface he’s exactly who he appears to be in nearly every way- timid, shy, and unable to hurt a fly. You wouldn’t be wrong of course, but this is where the similarities end because, thanks to his diminutive stature and feminine appearance, you would assume without a second thought that Chihiro Fujisaki was a girl. This, however, is not the case…but it’s exactly what he wants everyone to believe.

The root of Chihiro’s anxiety and general timidness around people can be blamed on his “weakness” that he has struggled to deal with from a very young age. Being weak physically had earned him ridicule from his peers, enough that his insecurities quickly developed into a deeply-rooted complex over his masculinity, leading him to find an escape the only way he knew how. In dressing like a girl, he was able to hide away from the scorn that he had endured for so many years. At the same time, however, it’s a secret that Chihiro is determined to keep to himself at all costs from the very moment he stepped foot into Hope’s Peak. Having to keep this secret only serves to worsen his complex, leaving the persona that he has crafted for himself to be a constant reminder of just how weak he is, as weak as the others always told him he was.

Despite being timid and meek, Chihiro is incredibly sweet and kind. His friends are very important to him, and though his shyness can get in the way of connecting with someone new, he will consider most that he meets to be a friend to him unless they give him a reason to think otherwise. Togami’s pointing out that everyone may as well follow the rules and kill each other to escape the school upsets him greatly, since at that point he already considers them all to be friends to some degree at least. In spite of this, this means that Chihiro will do what he can to make sure that his friends are as well off as they possibly can be. He even risks his own safety to do so in his creation of Alter Ego in private.

Chihiro suffers from having a rather weak disposition. It doesn’t take very much to upset him, and at one point he starts crying just because Mondo raised his voice at him. He’s not a person to easily bounce back from things, either. After Leon’s execution occurs, it’s enough to upset Chihiro to the point where he knows he won’t be able to make it in the school’s conditions of having to kill to escape any longer. His sensitivity causes him to take even the smallest things to heart, particularly when Mondo defends him against Togami, using the argument that he shouldn’t be picking on the weak. While Mondo meant well, it only served to offhandedly hurt his feelings.

However, Chihiro is a lot stronger than he truly realizes, in spite of all of the short comings he has to deal with. The fact that he has the strength to try to overcome them at all speaks volumes about just how strong the boy really is. His insecurities aren’t those that are easily triumphed over, leaving something in him that is to be desired- A kind of courage that he finally comes to have when it is unfortunately too late. Arguably, this makes Chihiro the strongest of all of the students at Hope’s Peak, regardless of being the smallest and the weakest. He is intelligent, determined, and kind. He manages to push past his insecurities though they plagued him for so many long years, and really does start to work to be the person he truly feels he is.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS
- Strongest of them all
It’s exactly what it says on the tin, in the fact that Chihiro is possibly the strongest of all of his classmates at Hope’s Peak, if only for the fact that he was able to overcome his insecurities enough to reveal his secret to Mondo. It’s not just the fact that he planned on telling Mondo about who he really was, either- he intended to later tell everyone the truth. The motive that was intended to plunge him into despair actually gave him the boost he needed to dispose of this debilitating obstacle that he’d been struggling with all of his life. He doesn’t succumb to his weakness. He doesn’t let this complex consume him. Chihiro takes it head on and makes the steps to change himself for the better, exhibiting a kind of strength that nobody else had.

- SHSL Programmer
Chihiro is something of a child prodigy when it comes to computers and programming. He’s remarkably intelligent and intuitive, as is evident in his creation of Alter Ego prior to his death. Not only was Chihiro able to construct the program in a matter of days, but he also managed to keep it well out of sight and hidden from the cameras, leaving a truly invaluable asset for the rest of his classmates to later find. In Route, both Chihiro’s intuition would serve him well, especially if he got into a situation where he had to travel or otherwise be on his own for whatever reason.

- A friend to all
As mentioned before, he’s willing to risk his own safety in constructing Alter Ego to ensure that not only he can escape Hope’s Peak alive, but the rest of the students as well. Just about everything that has a pulse is important and deserves to be treated with the utmost care, in Chihiro’s eyes. He refuses to even so much as harm a mosquito biting him, due to the fact that “probably has a family somewhere”. It’s rather ironic that instead of growing bitter and distant through the abuse he’s suffered, Chihiro instead uses this perspective to try to ensure that no one else has to suffer through what he has. No matter what kind of person you are, he is of the mind that even you don’t deserve such a fate. He’s not going to hold a grudge or much less hold something against you, because he knows what it’s like.

WEAKNESSES

- Weak weak weak
Chihiro’s biggest weakness by far stems from the complex he grew to have that revolves around exactly that: being weak. The onslaught of teasing and bullying he suffered forced him to find an escape in becoming a girl, which of course only served to intensify the problem. By succumbing to the abuse, he felt as if he was only growing weaker and weaker, instead of growing stronger. Having to lie about his gender and then keep the secret at all costs with the fear of being ridiculed even more harshly than before took a toll on Chihiro. It’s why he looks up to someone like Mondo, who he thinks is the prime example of a strong person and aspires to be strong like him, unwittingly leading to his own death.

- You’re not angry with me, are you?
As mentioned before, Chihiro’s friends are important to him. However, he also has a tendency to worry himself to death over whether or not someone is displeased with him or not. It’s likely another bit of anxiety he acquired due to his relentless bullying. He tends to apologize a lot in conversation about things, even if it’s not something he necessarily needs to be apologizing for. Chihiro isn’t one to readily speak up- particularly in standing up for himself- and would be more likely to submit himself to avoid any further conflict.

- Weak, but not by choice
Though something he struggles with, Chihiro can’t much help the fact that he’s considerably weak, physically. He’s much smaller than most young boys his age, his thin, frail stature giving him an almost doll-like appearance. In Route, this would mean that traveling on his own would be a near impossibility…at least at first. Trying to travel for many days on foot per route just to reach the next town would be out of the question. Having a group to travel with or a Pokemon to ride on would change that, but otherwise Chihiro just isn’t strong enough to physically handle that sort of physical exertion. It is, however, another aspect of himself he wants to change. He wants to become stronger both mentally in being comfortable with who he is and physically, as far as strength is concerned.

[A video appears on the feed with the sound of a Pokemon crying out happily, slightly muffled and at a bit of a distance. ”Goon! Gooon!” The feed shudders a bit, the surroundings shifting until whoever is on the other side finally gets their PokeGear angled toward themselves. Coming in to view is what appears to be a young girl, and from the way their voice sounds in addition there’s nothing that could lead anyone to believe otherwise. This is in fact not the case, and rather she is a he. Still, the outfit he’s currently wearing seems to be made specifically for girls…]

Hello. ..Um. ….

[The child on the other end hesitates, pausing before trying to start again.]

My name….is Chihiro Fujisaki. I’m…not sure where I am…or what is going on, exactly.

[There’s a pause as the feed shifts once again, Chihiro disappearing for a moment before popping back into view with a very fluffy Zigzagoon in his arms. Once he’s holding the Pokemon he seems to calm down, his bushy tail wagging happily. He’s honestly not sure what else to do, but the creature seems friendly at least. It’s clear that Chihiro has arrived slightly overwhelmed by…well, everything, so it’s a moment before he’s able to continue.]

Or…how I got here, but.... Naegi-kun, Oowada-kun, Ishimaru-kun…um….Asahina-san…

[He quickly prattles off all the names of his classmates that he can remember off-hand, before realizing that a huge list of names won’t probably mean much if they…aren’t actually around. That thought strikes him hard for a moment before he takes a breath and continues, his grip on the ‘Gear tightening.]

….and everyone else. If any of you are here, from Hope’s Peak, please answer. Something…something must have happened. I mean, I’m outside again…and not….

[Chihiro seems unsure of what else to say, whatever he was saying dying on his tongue, so he dips his head slightly before cutting the feed.]

Third Person Sample:

The Dangan House seemed rather empty today (28 Eevees not withstanding), not due to nobody being home, but due to one of those somebodies choosing to spend their day outside in the fresh air. Chihiro sat in the grass outside with his knees pulled close to his chest, wearing a more casual set of clothing as opposed to the girl’s school uniform he arrived in just a few weeks prior. It’s clear that he’s grown a lot more confident since he arrived in Johto, if the shorts he’s wearing are any testament of that. His Zigzagoon is sprawled out on his back in the grass, and right next to him sits a Flareon with her body curled around a small clutch of Pokemon eggs.

With a smile he absently strokes the top of her head, not at all concerned that he might be burned by touching her. He was admittedly a bit frightened by it, at first, but once assured that the Pokemon only felt slightly warmer than usual to the touch he’d grown accustomed to it. She was rather good for watching eggs, keeping them warm and making sure they didn’t come under any harm until they hatched. This particular cluster promised a group of bouncing baby Torchics, because who wouldn’t want that?

“I wonder who will raise these Torchic when they hatch? I’m sure they will grow to be very strong,” He murmurs, as if trying to be quiet so as not to disturb the eggs. He’d learned that as far as breeding was concerned, rare Pokemon- such as starters like Torchic happened to be- were generally popular. Still, thankfully he hadn’t had trouble finding homes for the babies he’d bred thus far. …He even kept a few to raise for himself, now and then.

The Flareon flicks her ears back, nuzzling her head into Chihiro’s hand as he pets her. For Chihiro, breeding hadn’t been just about trying to breed the strongest Pokemon….it was much more than that. It was therapeutic for him, in a way. Caring for something and keeping it safe…keeping a watchful eye over something totally helpless gave him a feeling of purpose. It meant a lot to him to see the babies grow with the trainers they would later travel with, growing up big and strong and happy. It was all he could ask for, really.

In fact, it felt like this was something he was always meant to do. It felt like he really belonged here, in this world far away from the one he knew before. Many people he could truly call friends were here with him, alive and well. …As was he.

His smile grows slightly as he drops his head in his other hand, resting his elbow on his knee as he watches the eggs, all of them nestled snugly into the fur of Flareon’s tail.

Honestly, he never wanted to leave.
