[It's around midday, and a shaky video suddenly appears on the Network. At first it's pretty blurry and staticy, as if the Gear itself is malfunctioning a bit, before Chihiro finally comes into focus. He's standing...no, he's crouching behind what looks like a desk not too far from a wall of televisions, and tucked behind his ankles is a Flareon whose fur is glowing softly. It looks like he's in a store of some kind.]

Does anyone have any suggestions for catching a Pokemon that is, um...very fast?

[Chihiro whispers, glancing up when something falls off of a shelf offscreen and clatters to the floor. His Flareon growls softly, peering around the edge of the counter as Chihiro turns his attention back to the screen.]

I haven't caught many Pokemon myself, since I breed them mostly...and this one won't-

[All of a sudden the feed cuts.

For a while- like, five minutes or more- there's no further activity on the Network. Then, as abruptly as the first one appeared, a second one comes, this time with Chihiro sitting on the floor instead of crouching, his Flareon in his lap and both of them looking rather frazzled.]

A-actually, I think I maybe should jus-

[Before he finishes the TV screens flash rapidly behind him, and the set nearest him seems to suddenly change appearance, a cheerful giggling sounding before all of the lights turn off in the store. After that, the feed cuts again.]

[DO YOU NEED AN INTERVENTION ON ACCOUNT OF THINGS HAVE STOPPED BEING OKAY.]

[A response comes...eventually, but only after Chihiro and his Flareon are in a different part of the store, standing huddled between two upright shelves.]

I-I think so! I'm just...having a little trouble.

[There's another rapid flickering of lights and a rustle somewhere offscreen as something else hurtles to the ground. Thankfully it doesn't sound like it broke, or else Chihiro would be leaving this store broke.]

Alice-san, w-what do I do?

[Well, that's not...ominous at all.]

Where is that, the appliance store? Are you trapped in there?

Yes!

[Well, not so much trapped as here voluntarily...but now that he's been found by the thing he's trying to catch, it won't let him leave.]

Okay, just hang on. Your Flareon can't hit the...whatever it is?

[He shakes his head a little.]

It's a Rotom! It keeps going into different appliances to hide, like these TVs...so she hasn't been able to!

It's okay, I have an idea. Keep hiding, we'll be there soon.

[And soon enough this will turn to action...]

[BE THE HERO HE DESERVES, PARKER.]

O-okay...

[He'll stay right where he is, thanks, with his Flareon keeping watch as the Rotom flits from appliance to appliance, causing the lights to flicker with a few mischievous chirps.]

Um... Maybe try Mean Look? Makes it so nothing can run away.

[Midday was a good time to do some food shopping - not so good a time to get spooky and freaky gear messages. Rin is just about to answer the cute looking g . . . girl . . . . . ? (Could it be a boy? That was totally possible.) -- Okay, okay, Rin is just about to answer the cute-looking person when the TV starts up its crazy horror movie routine.

What would be the sensible thing to do? Hunt down the shop the poor person is in and try to save them from the poltergeist!!! ...That, and maybe trying to re-establish a connection.]

Hey!! Where are you?! I'll try and get you out of there!

I don't have any Pokemon that know that move...especially not my Flareon.

A lot of ghost types do...

[Chihiro manages after he gets the Gear turned back on, whispering. The entire place seems to be pretty quiet for the time being...a little too quiet. Actually, Chihiro is the only person here, it seems.]

Ah, I...don't have any ghost types.

[He pauses, stiffening when something else crashes in the distance.]

Not yet, anyway...

[The horror movie scene just raised the bar from 3 to 7. This was not good. Rin does manage to stay calm. He's seen worse but that was when he had the power to Stop Things. Over here, no such thing is possible.

But it's not about to stop him from trying. He walks around quickly, looking for this supposed appliance store.]

Okay. [Great, now he's attempting to whisper too. OH HOLD ON, HE HAS ADVICE - ] Don't talk to anything in there - if something pops up, I mean. ...Don't talk to it.

[A soft Shit escaped Veronica as she watched the scene unfold. It had been so familiar.]

I... don't know. I was in a situation like that and I just threw a pokeball.

[She freaked out and threw something in reflex, is what she's saying.]

[Well that's pretty easy to do, especially when this Rotom doesn't seem to be too interested in holding a conversation. In fact, he's having a grand old time flitting from object to object, knocking things off of shelves and causing Chihiro to jump with soft exclamations of surprise.]

O-okay, I won't!

Some psychics?

[And soon enough (given some trial and error to find the right appliance store and the correct location within it), along comes Parker, armed with a Mightyena and what appears to be a Gloom.]

Fujisaki? If you can hear me, stay low and cover your eyes and mouth, okay?

It keeps disappearing into the TVs, or...or anything else electronic. Throwing pokeballs doesn't work.

[Chihiro explains quickly, sitting up a bit straighter against the counter.]

Good! It's not gonna help you tot talk to it, since it might just hurt you -- but don't be scared!! I'm pretty good with stuff like this.

[There must be some misunderstanding here because Rin is absolutely sure that there is a ghost and he is about to somehow exorcise it without his usual tools of the trade. . . . Also. He is not "pretty good at this stuff". He's the complete opposite.

But he rounds the corner and rushes up to the appliance store door. . . . And proceeds to try to bust down the door instead of checking if it was just open like normal doors are.]

[At that, he nods.]

I have two.

[...]

They, um...they aren't with me, though. And one of them only knows Teleport.

[He's...not a trainer, okay, he's a breeder.]

[...oh now that sounds ominous.

Chihiro shares a quick glance with his Flareon before sliding down to sit on the floor again, covering his eyes with one hand and his mouth with the other. His Flareon jumps into his lap, still keeping an eye out for changes in the darkness.

The lights are still flickering, and the TVs are going haywire as the Rotom jumps from one to the other.]

[Well thankfully this door wasn't open so he doesn't lose too much face, but it wasn't locked either...

Inside, Rin will find...well, a whole lot of not much, admittedly. There are a few appliances on the floor where they've been knocked off the shelves, and the lights are still flickering madly, but otherwise all is still.]

I heard the door open. Is that you?

Bummer. I'm really not sure how else you can stop something that moves that fast and not, you know, actually hurt them.
