There is something I have been thinking about for a while, so I wanted to get some opinions from others about it.

The PokéGear has a lot of useful functions. Some of them are pretty standard, like the Pokédex, Map, or Radio, and most of us use the PokéGear connect to speak to the Network like I am doing right now. And of course you can play games or listen to music on it, too.

The Gear is useful for both trainers and breeders when it comes to having ready information on Pokémon, but I think most of us do tend to use it mostly for communication purposes. But that's why I wanted to ask...

Are there any sorts of applications that you think might be useful additions to the PokéGear? Something that could be helpful for you as a trainer, or breeder...or possibly just something you would like for recreational purposes, maybe.

That's true. And they do seem to be very useful. I imagine they'll become even more so as I keep going.

Hmm...I don't, actually. I usually return him before I go to sleep at night.

[Mostly since...well, Zip still really thinks it's necessary to check up on his children as often as possible, so Chihiro tries to keep an eye on that so he doesn't become too overbearing on people.]

But I wouldn't mind letting him stay up if it would give him more time to work on things.

I'm sure they will! I find myself using mine at least once a day anymore, if not more often than that, depending on what I am doing.

And if you are traveling it's even better to have the Gear with you...just in case you might need help.

That's true. If I can think of something myself I want to work on, I probably will.

In the meantime, I really don't have many of my own ideas yet, to tell you the truth...it's why I'm asking in the first place.

It's your decision, naturally. But that's where a lot of Zack's productivity comes from — he makes the most use of his time that way.

That makes sense. Though, Zip is still a bit inexperienced. He's done very well with some things I offered him to work with when I first got him, and he's getting better all the time...he just tends to get a bit distracted.

But I think if I have a definite project for him to work on, then he might not have that problem as much.

What did you give him to work with?

I usually have him work with basic formatting, and he has been practicing changing things on his own Gear that way. Nothing quite as far as writing his own scripts, but he has been able to manipulate most anything I give him so far.

He has also been learning to write things using binary code, and I think he enjoys it a lot, but I haven't been working on anything during my time here that would be complex enough to require it.

My team is also very small at the moment, so being able to contact help if I need it is useful. I'm traveling with someone else for now though.

Traveling with a group is always a good idea, I think. And as long as all of you have Gears that work, you should be fine.

[Or something that flies, if you need to just haul tail to the next town.]

What kind of games?

Now that's interesting. Zack may be slightly more of a prodigy than I'd realized; he'd led me to believe that those sorts of activities were inherent to Porygon. Something about it being his natural language, I think it was.

It would be like him to be modest, come to think of it.

We do. Do you know Atsuro Kihara? He's a student of mine and he's been here a while. He's the one I'm traveling with.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. I have never known another Pokemon to be able to work as well with technology as Porygon can, but I think they can be at all different skill levels too, just like any other Pokemon.

I don't know if this would have anything to do with it, but perhaps it has to do with the fact that Zack has evolved, too? Zip is still at Porygon's first evolutionary stage...so maybe it could also be compared to Zack having a higher 'upgrade'.

Oh, yes. I know Atsuro-kun. But I didn't know he had a teacher.

Well, he was my student at home. Unfortunately it seems that a number of years have passed for him here since he was my student, so I'm not sure if he can be called that anymore.

That's also very possible. Plus you always have to take into consideration that Zack can be something of an unreliable source of information — not intentionally, mind, but he's young, and doesn't always have the...perspective that I imagine he would if he were older and more experienced.

I see. I'm not sure how long he has been here without people from home here as well...so it's good that you are here for him, now.

Ah...yes, that is true, too. Zip is fairly young himself, though I guess I could say he's one of my older Pokemon, since most of mine hatched from eggs I bred.

How long have you had Zack for, if you don't mind me asking? Zip was the second Pokemon I ever got, next to my starter.

... That aside, I'd be interested in seeing your work, if you have any examples.

Really? Well...admittedly I don't have all that much. At least, nowhere near the amount I had back home, since I've basically been forced to start from scratch...but I'm sure I can get a few things to send, if you would like.

I understand. I don't have what I had back home either, though I'm sure I could write a good portion of the code out in longhand. But different people use different styles, so it's often useful to see what sort of shortcuts different people have developed.

Mmm...well, in that case, would you mind if I saw some of your work, too? You don't have to of course...but I would be very interested in seeing the way you write code as well!
