There is something I have been thinking about for a while, so I wanted to get some opinions from others about it.

The PokéGear has a lot of useful functions. Some of them are pretty standard, like the Pokédex, Map, or Radio, and most of us use the PokéGear connect to speak to the Network like I am doing right now. And of course you can play games or listen to music on it, too.

The Gear is useful for both trainers and breeders when it comes to having ready information on Pokémon, but I think most of us do tend to use it mostly for communication purposes. But that's why I wanted to ask...

Are there any sorts of applications that you think might be useful additions to the PokéGear? Something that could be helpful for you as a trainer, or breeder...or possibly just something you would like for recreational purposes, maybe.

I was actually thinking about this recently: something that could filter people looking to sell eggs or looking for breeding matches would be useful

Hmm...something like a tag system, then? Or a way where someone can identify their posts as being for a certain purpose, and then have the Gear able to organize them that way.

Yes, I am. I have been working on a few things, but nothing all that major, really. At least not yet.

yeah exactly. some times I wanna wade through 100 posts of people talking about their breakfast, but sometimes I wanna get some actual work done

I see. I'm one as well. I haven't had much time to sit down and work on coding here, but I'm interested in doing so.

I understand. I do think that would be useful, if something like that could be implemented. Right now posts just appear with the most recent ones being listed first- which has its uses, also- so I think it would be good to still have the option of being able to view posts that way, too.

Oh! Well, the Gear works well to start with for basic coding...I do plan on getting a laptop sometime for that as well, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Changing things too much wouldn't be good, yeah. just some way to search alone would help a lot. I don't comb this thing a lot so I miss things that I can actually use.

It shouldn't take me that long. I've coded for small machines like this in the past, actually. If I can find a spare one I plan on taking it apart to see how the parts work, as well.

Yes, I agree. It is easy for posts to get buried quickly since people post so frequently.

But I don't think something like that would be hard at all to make.

I see...well, you can get spare PokéGears from the Pokémon Center. They'll always replace it for you for free if you damaged it, but they won't mind giving you a spare, too.

You're welcome! And don't worry about it....I'm just glad to have suggestions so I can know what applictions might be the most useful for people if I decide to make them.

Is this a project you're undertaking alone, or were you planning to have Porygon assistance with it?

Well, I think Zip would be very disappointed if I didn't let him help. I could always use the extra assistance, too.

And if you know any other Porygons who may be interested, I wouldn't mind their input, either.

That depends on the application. Zack's written a few of them himself, but at least one isn't really coded for human consumption.

...The voice-changer, on the other hand, he offers around freely to anyone who wants it.

The voice-changer? How does that one work?

It operates through the Gear's microphone and speaker; when it's activated, you can talk through the microphone and the program will change the pitch of your voice before playing it back out the speaker.

I see! I wouldn't mind having that application on my Gear, if he would like to send it sometime.

Zip has not written any applications himself yet, but he has been practicing a lot with his own Gear. I think he would love to see the one Zack made.

Interesting. They must be fairly cheap to make if they're giving them out for free.

This may seem like an odd question, but do you let him stay up and out all hours of the night?

Porygon don't need to sleep, so Zack usually does his heaviest work during the eight or so hours that I'm asleep.

Oh...well, if I know I'm making something that will help someone else, then it will be enjoyable regardless.

It's possible. Though I am sure they get broken often, especially if a trainer is traveling a lot...so it would become very expensive to have to keep buying replacements.
