008 | Video/Action for Goldenrod

[It's around midday, and a shaky video suddenly appears on the Network. At first it's pretty blurry and staticy, as if the Gear itself is malfunctioning a bit, before Chihiro finally comes into focus. He's standing...no, he's crouching behind what looks like a desk not too far from a wall of televisions, and tucked behind his ankles is a Flareon whose fur is glowing softly. It looks like he's in a store of some kind.]

Does anyone have any suggestions for catching a Pokemon that is, um...very fast?

[Chihiro whispers, glancing up when something falls off of a shelf offscreen and clatters to the floor. His Flareon growls softly, peering around the edge of the counter as Chihiro turns his attention back to the screen.]

I haven't caught many Pokemon myself, since I breed them mostly...and this one won't-

[All of a sudden the feed cuts.

For a while- like, five minutes or more- there's no further activity on the Network. Then, as abruptly as the first one appeared, a second one comes, this time with Chihiro sitting on the floor instead of crouching, his Flareon in his lap and both of them looking rather frazzled.]

A-actually, I think I maybe should jus-

[Before he finishes the TV screens flash rapidly behind him, and the set nearest him seems to suddenly change appearance, a cheerful giggling sounding before all of the lights turn off in the store. After that, the feed cuts again.]

Hmm...I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure if I have a Pokemon with me that could do that...

[His Flareon could burn it, maybe...]

[Lancer...]

I don't have any ghost types, no. This...would be my first, actually.

...if I can catch it.

[And that's a pretty big 'if'.]

...I've got just one--you in Goldenrod? [He's pretty sure that looks local, so you might be in luck, Chihiro.] I'll go grab her and try helpin' you out.

[He nods slightly, opening his mouth to say something in response when an object of some kind suddenly shatters, causing him to jump and cry out unintentionally.]

A-ah! Thank you!

[He'll just stay behind the counter to avoid getting a TV dropped on him, thanks.]

[ . . . Rin is pretty darn sure he would have seen a Flareon glowing by now. He's nearly made his way to the back of the store and there was still no sign of Chihiro.

Hopefully this ghost thing isn't the soul sucking type.]

Right. [Should the hero tell the princess that he sorta failed???] Look, I might have gotten the wrong store? But don't worry! You have a flareon with you! Just keep focused and I'll try to get to you a-sap!

...Just take cover until I get there, okay?

[SIGH.]

[But Lancer would find his way there after a quick detour to the PC, all Hawaiian shirt and leather pants with a Misdreavus trailing in circles behind him. About time she saw some action outside of run-of-the-mill training, but...if Lancer was being honest with himself, the little ghost-type kind of unsettled him.]

Alright--let's see what we're dealin' with, huh?

[....oh dear.

Henko lets out a low noise of frustration, her long ears perking a little as she looks around the corner again. The TV screens are flashing once more as the Rotom flits from one to the other, causing sparks to fly across the shelves.]

A-alright! I'll be here...look for a place with the lights flickering!

Flickering lights, got it!

[He rushes out of the store and this time decides to do the smart thing and call out his Poochyena, Poochy. Surely, she would be able to sniff out a kid or a flareon or anything.

But this time he keeps an eye out for this flickering store.]

...Maybe talkin' to me could help keep you calm in the mean time. I'm Rin, what's your name?

[He busts down another door. It looked like the lights were flickering? But it could just be normal light maintenance... Or maybe not? Poochy rushes inside as soon as the door is open and heads right to a counter.]

I recommend making them fall asleep, so they won't try to escape. Paralysis can make them easier to capture, but they can still try to escape.

[Which he sometimes wonder while playing the game. But since Pokemon are real...maybe they can use their environment to their advantage.]

Otherwise...there's always knocking them out cold.

[The first thing Lancer might notice is the fact that the lights are still madly flickering in the place, like someone really needs their lightswitch privileges revoked. On a shelf nearby sits a blender that happens to be turned on and blending away at thin air.

...but it isn't plugged in.]

[If Poochy has come to the right place, then she'll be able to see Henko's body glowing brightly in her irritation as she watches the Rotom bounce around the room, trying to keep herself between it and her trainer.]

M-my name is Chihiro! Chihiro Fujisaki.

...man, I better not get charged for the property damage this is gonna end up in.

[Isn't it sad, Lancer.]

Tohsaka- [The Misdreavus floated forward in a meandering line, looking around with eager interest.] Hit that with a Psywave, see what happens. I mean, if there's a ghost possessin' the thing, that's probably a good call, right?

[if ever we needed kirei kotomine, it is probably now]

[ONE PSYWAVE'D BLENDER COMING UP]

.... [She frowns, legitimately frustrated that none of her advice is helping.]

...Maybe, you can try to lure it out of the store? That might help you get a hit in.

[He nods slowly in understanding.]

Okay...Henko is just having trouble getting a direct hit, since it keeps going into the different appliances.

What kind of Pokemon is that?!

[....]

Are you alright?!

I-I'm okay! At the moment...

..and it's a Rotom. It's...it's a ghost type.

[Well, ghost/electric, but the ghost part is more important right now.]

A Rotom, huh?

[He'll look that up in a moment.]

I guess being a ghost type would make them a little hard to catch.

Why is your video cutting out? What's the Rotom doing?

[He assumes it's the ghost being a ghost, at least!]

Well...Rotoms can possess electronics.

[There's a gentle whir in the background as he says that. ...it sounds an awful lot like a blender.]

So it keeps getting into everything in here...including my Gear.

[Well that's... definitely a thing.]

I didn't realize there were Pokemon capable of that.

You probably can't offer a ghost treats, right?

[....]

At least it's not as scary as that one movie with the house.

I don't know...I've never had a ghost type Pokemon before. It might be possible, but-

[He stops, jerking a little when the blender stops and the Rotom jumps into something new, another TV by the sound of it.]

...I don't think that would help much right now anyway.

[...that thing is a little creepy.

If the world handed almost ended in his first week here, Banjou might be tempted to think that the thing is just a little odd, but it could be dangerous.

...saying that would probably not help the girl, so he's going to put on his brave face!]

I wonder where it came from? Do you think maybe you could catch it when it's in something small?

I think that might make it easier...it just moves very fast. My Flareon hasn't been able to hit it once, and I think being inside something helps protect it.

As for where it came from...I was told that Rotoms roam around the appliance stores here in Goldenrod by a friend...so I wanted to come see for myself.

[He's been in Goldenrod for a little while now, but he hadn't heard of anything like that.

He might have to investigate at some point. Just out of curiosity.]

If you found something small, smaller than the 'Gear, maybe, I wonder if you could carry it out before it could hide inside of another electronic?

Lure it out?

[Hmm...he hadn't thought about that.]

I suppose I could try, but I don't know if it really wants to get too far from these electronics. They stretch all the way to the front of the store, so it could easily block me in before I can get out.

[Which is half the reason why he's still stuck where he is.]

[One must wonder how adept kirei kotomine would be at exorcising blenders.

The attack hits the blender and slams it back into the wall, causing it to tumble off the shelf with the glass rim on the top shattered. A visible, jerking arc of energy jumps out of the object with a high pitched noise, quickly disappearing into the light switch.

Over the top of Lancer's head the lights start flickering even more wildly, one near the front of the store taking so much abuse that it burns out entirely.

Then, the Pokemon moves to seek refuge in a radio, switching it on. Hope you like jazz!]
