There is something I have been thinking about for a while, so I wanted to get some opinions from others about it.

The PokéGear has a lot of useful functions. Some of them are pretty standard, like the Pokédex, Map, or Radio, and most of us use the PokéGear connect to speak to the Network like I am doing right now. And of course you can play games or listen to music on it, too.

The Gear is useful for both trainers and breeders when it comes to having ready information on Pokémon, but I think most of us do tend to use it mostly for communication purposes. But that's why I wanted to ask...

Are there any sorts of applications that you think might be useful additions to the PokéGear? Something that could be helpful for you as a trainer, or breeder...or possibly just something you would like for recreational purposes, maybe.

Quite a number of things. But my focus has mainly been on the creation of artificial intelligence.

Aha. That's a topic I haven't had much time to get into yet, though it's very interesting to me. I did have a program that forecast events for the day with fairly accurate results, but nothing that robust.

It's something I have been working on for quite a while. Like I said, I don't have any of my work here, but I have been able to build it back up to some degree during my time here. I can see where a program like that could be useful, however.

What other sorts of programs have you created?

Maybe there should be some kind of scanner for Pokemon in the area you're in. It could help with people trying to get a special one.

Well... my previous project was one that dealt with the summoning of creatures somewhat similar to Pokemon. However, I don't think that much of it will be useful here, given that the sheer biological differences are immense.

i was talking about it during that new years party
its not as important in johto cause we can all speak the same language
but if we go anywhere like kalos again we could have problems
i mean its not the best idea and i dunno how easily you could make something like that

A scanner...so you mean like something that could scan a Pokemon and give you more detailed information on it, such as abilities it may have, beyond just its species information?

The good thing, though, is that it doesn't usually take much to find inspiration. Just a few new ideas can be enough to give me something to work with.

When you say they were similar to Pokemon, what do you mean by that, exactly?

[He's curious, since the way Naoya is describing it...it sounds like these creatures are more like data if they can be summoned through technological means.]

It seems like we have been interacting with Kalos more and more recently...first with their Pokemon, and now with the people living there. I think an application like that might be worth considering if we find ourselves visiting just as often as we do regions like Kanto.

And I'm glad you think so! It would take some time, but I think I could do it.

yeah itd be nice if we could go see more of what it had to offer
but if everyone over there speaks kalosian or whatever then it could be a problem
i wish i could help you out with that but i dont know jackshit about this
i dont know how to program or code or whatever it is you do
and i know even less about languages
but im sure there are plenty of people here who can speak other languages
it might be a good project to work on in the future!

but as for right now ive got no idea for other things to put on the gear
have you gotten any good suggestions?

So far, the suggestions have been a tag system for the Network that will organize posts using keywords, more games, a Pokemon scanner, and a universal translator.

Yes, that did make things a bit difficult. Those people did very well to accommodate us while we were there, but the language barrier would make things harder if we end up visiting again.

It's okay! I am going to get my Porygons to help me with the larger amounts of coding I'm going to have to do, depending on what I eventually decide to work on.

There have been a few good ones, yes. Particularly one being that there be a sort of tag system for the Network to help organize posts using keywords. That way it would be easier to find...say, people selling eggs, for example.

Another was an extension of the Pokemon scanner that the Pokedex already has; it would scan Pokemon and give further information on them beyond species information, such as what their abilities are.

Ah...I'm not the person to ask when it comes to making music, I'm afraid. Though it wouldn't be hard to create an application to store music, if there are people here who make original things!

The same goes for sharing things, like recipes...that makes me wonder if it would be possible to create a sort of forum that connects to the Network, specifically for sharing things like that.

All of them sounds great! I think I would prefer the tag system and the universal translator more. Because it'd be easier to browse through posts and we would need to understand each other more.

More games will always come in the future at any time.

Will the translator be text-based, or we can add in audio translations?

I agree! I'm not sure how the translator would work exactly, but I think it would be easier to start with text and work from there. It would need a lot of testing, and if that part of it could be perfected the audio could follow.

As for the tag system, I think that one is the most promising. It sounds like it could be an incredibly useful addition, since I know I have wanted to look for specific posts at times...especially when I'm looking to give away eggs.
